Malaysia Smelting Corporation Halts Operations Due to Gas Pipeline Explosion in Putra Heights

On April 3, Malaysia Smelting Corporation Berhad (MSC) announced that natural gas supply to its smelting plant has been disrupted following a pipeline explosion in Putra Heights, Selangor, which occurred on April 1, 2025.

As a result, the company’s tin smelting operations have been suspended, and the timeline for resuming operations remains uncertain. MSC stated that it is closely working with relevant authorities and will notify its customers as soon as the smelting plant resumes operations.

The company added that, at this time, there is no official schedule for restoring gas supply.

Separately, Xinhua News Agency reported on April 1 that the fire caused by the gas pipeline explosion in the Puchong area of Selangor had been extinguished by the afternoon of the same day. The explosion resulted in 112 injuries, and the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
