Peru Aims to Double Copper Production, Challenges Chile as World’s Top Producer

According to foreign media reports on November 17, Victor Gobitz, President of Peru’s SNMPE, stated that Peru has the potential to double its copper production and compete with Chile for the top spot as the world’s largest producer.

Currently, Peru produces 2.5 million tons of copper annually, while Chile, the largest producer, produces 5 million tons. Gobitz noted that by 2050, global copper demand will double, presenting significant opportunities to develop a series of projects with investments exceeding $54 billion.
