Ero Copper’s Tucumá Project Scheduled to Begin Production in Early Q3

Wenhua Finance reported on June 12 that the Tucumá project in Pará, Brazil, will begin operations next month after receiving its operating permit.

Ero Copper stated in a press release on Wednesday that the project’s actual completion rate is approximately 99%, with commissioning work progressing smoothly and over 90% of operational staff hired and trained. The estimated direct capital cost of the project remains around $310 million.

CEO David Strang said that the imminent start-up of the mine marks “a significant turning point” for the company and its stakeholders for the years ahead.

Ero Copper currently produces copper at its flagship Caraíba project in Bahia. In 2023, the project produced 43,857 tonnes of copper concentrate, with this year’s production expected to be between 42,000 and 47,000 tonnes.

Once operational, the Tucumá open-pit project is expected to add an additional 7,000 to 25,000 tonnes of production in 2024 and an additional 53,000 to 58,000 tonnes in 2025.
